Our CNC Turning Capabilities at Komaspec
At Komaspec CNC turning runs as part of a fully integrated manufacturing system, not as a standalone service.
Our CNC turning department is built for continuous, high-volume and high-quality output. Automatic bar feeders keep lathes running with minimal downtime, experienced machinists oversee every production run, and our quality checks happen at multiple stages throughout production.
For brands and OEMs managing complex manufacturing assemblies, this means a shorter and faster path from design to finished product - every major process can be done by us. Learn more about our full CNC Machining Services →
Technicians managing the production workflow at dedicated workstations, ensuring continuous quality checks during the CNC turning process.
Vertical Integration
Without leaving our facilities - CNC turned components feed directly into fabrication, assembly, and finishing. Less handoffs, less coordination overhead, and greater control over the whole process.
Wide Material Selection
At Komaspec, we run CNC turning in hot rolled steel (#20, Q235, Q275, Q355), aluminum (AL6061 T6, AL7075 T6), and stainless steel (SS304, SS316, SS316L) — with multiple surface finish options available for each.
Precision CNC Turning
Achieve consistent dimensional tolerances across production runs. Select from standard surface roughness (≤3.2 µm Ra) to high-grade (≤0.8 µm Ra) to suit your product.
Continuous Output
Automatic bar feeders keep the operation running with minimal downtime, maintaining high-volume output through production runs, without interruption to your schedule.
How CNC Turning Works
CNC turning is a subtractive machining process that is based on the principle of the lathe. The bar stock is then put into a chuck and spun at a high rate of speed while a computer controlled cutting tool follows programmed paths to remove material from the workpiece until the desired geometry is achieved.
The step-by-step process of CNC turning is the following:
A technician prepares the enclosed machining zone for automated material removal, allowing the CNC turning process to safely execute high-speed rotational cuts.
Our engineers analyze your designs for machinability, cost and fit within the overall assembly.
Design files are converted into machine instructions that CNC will follow.
The CNC lathe machine then machines material from bar stock based on those instructions to generate the required geometry.
Components are inspected against your specifications.
From there, components move to quality control and assembly within our facility - then your products are shipped directly to your desired location.
This process can be repeated almost indefinitely, by restocking metal bars before the current run finishes.
Is CNC Turning Right For Your Project?
CNC turning is a cost-effective way to produce cylindrical components at scale. When CNC turned components are part of a larger assembly, having everything under one roof eliminates handoffs and compresses lead times significantly.
This fabrication method is well suited for designs that:
Need precision control of cylindrical, conical, external or internal diameters.
Require dimensional tolerances that other processes, such as casting, cannot consistently meet.
Are geometrically straightforward and needed at medium-to-high volumes.
Need tight surface finish control — parts running against seals, bearings, or sliding surfaces.
CNC Turning Service Use Cases
CNC turning is widely applied machining processes across industries.
Any sector that relies on cylindrical components at volume — electronics, automotive, agriculture, consumer goods — depends on it as a core production process. At Komaspec, these components are typically one part of a larger, multi-process project.

CNC Turning Materials
Komaspec's supplier network covers the most common grades used in CNC turning across industries, which means shorter lead times from order confirmation to shipment, even for complex projects.
The typical alloys we work with are:

If you are not sure which alloy is the best for your part, our engineering team can advise you after an order is placed. We are also ready to discuss custom materials requests.
Surface Finishes
CNC turning already produces tight surface roughness straight off the machine. Post-treatment is typically about protection and appearance. For example, stopping rust, making a component last longer, or meeting a certain roughness requirement for the end use of the product.
The surface treatments typically done in CNC turning projects include:
| Finish | Typical use |
|---|---|
| As-machined | Used for turned parts where functionality is the priority, with no additional finishing beyond machining |
| Oiling | Applied to turned parts to provide temporary corrosion protection during storage and transport |
| Powder coating | Used on turned components that require a durable, uniform finish for wear and environmental resistance |
| E-coating | Ideal for complex turned geometries, delivering consistent corrosion protection even in internal features |
| Anodization | Applied to aluminum turned parts to improve corrosion resistance and surface hardness while enhancing appearance |
| Hard anodization | Applied to aluminum turned parts requiring greater surface hardness and wear resistance than standard anodization |
| Chromate | Applied to aluminum turned parts to provide corrosion resistance while preserving electrical conductivity |
| Passivation | Used on stainless steel turned parts to remove contaminants and enhance natural corrosion resistance |
| Zinc plating | Common for steel turned parts to provide corrosion protection and improved surface durability |

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our contract manufacturing and assembly services in China.
Our engineering team reviews your design files to identify issues that may affect machinability, cost, and lead time for the CNC turned parts. Our goal is to ensure cost reduction, error-proof your project, help localize your product, and to de-risk your project as much as possible.
Adjustments made at this stage come at low cost. The same cannot be said if issues go unnoticed.
CNC turning is quick and reliable, which keeps the cost per unit low, especially for runs of medium to high volumes. Few manufacturing methods match it for speed, accuracy, and unit cost at that scale.
However, the process is limited to cylindrical and rotationally symmetric parts. A cylindrical shaft with a milled flat or a cross-hole, for instance, would require a secondary milling operation – which Komaspec handles in-house with turn-mill equipment.
When you are making cylindrical or rotationally symmetric parts, such as shafts, bushings, pins, axles, nuts, and similar components. Turning is highly cost-effective for these geometries.
Milling is the right choice for everything else: flat surfaces, pockets, slots, contoured features, etc.
Komaspec is a turnkey contract manufacturer, meaning CNC turning is one capability within a broader in-house offering that covers the full production cycle, including CNC milling, laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, tube fabrication, stamping, plastic injection, and assembly.
